Through its participation in CityLoops, Porto aims to develop several tools that will improve the circularity of its organic waste sector. Its main objective is to implement actions focusing on procurement, prevention and local treatment to decrease biowaste generation and introduce dedicated systems to increase separated biowaste collection. These actions should lead to the promotion of circularity in the management of organic matter in the social economy sector, the tourism sector and in residential neighbourhoods with high-rise buildings.

REDUCING FOOD WASTE

Within the CityLoops project, the City of Porto will undertake a series of demonstration actions aimed at reducing food waste through procurement and smart decision-making about food purchases. To do so, working with the social economy and the tourism sectors, Porto is to monitor biowaste streams, design a decision-making tool for both sectors to prevent food waste, and support hotels in providing social institutions with donated food – closing the loop locally. Porto plans to also take action to increase separated biowaste collection in residential areas.

2GO OUT Consulting participates in the circular demonstration activities at Porto City, supporting its planning, implementation and evaluation, included in the WP3, working together with Lipor, Porto Ambiente and Municipality of Porto. In particular, 2GO OUT is leading the planning of Urban Organic Waste Circularity Models at Porto City. 2GO OUT is also taking a major role in Circularity City Scan (Sector-wide Circularity Assessment).
